Here is a better link for the Northern Japan Earthqauke Relief Fund!
=)
So yes, I haven't updated on anything in the last two months so I will make it as short and sweet as possible.
School: Decided to take a weird semester that my school made for the Japan returnees. This means I have close to no summer. But on the upside this is the first time I have been in San Francisco for the summer months.
Extra: I have been volunteering at the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund twice every week (full working days!) Being able to help Japan and the people affected has been great, especially because I felt so completely helpless when I had to leave Japan.
A month ago they calculate that they had raised over $2.6 million dollars. 100% of it went directly to the region most affected.

Unfortunately it seems like they haven't updated their website recently
Travel Pictures: Originally I was only 2 months behind in showing all my adventures....now I am close to 5 months behind. I haven't looked through most of my Japan pictures since I came back. I might soon though (maybe in a week)
Life: Life is good =) Having adventures in the city and meeting great people.
Much love

I just got this joke from a lovely lady, and I decided to share ^_^
A Homeless Man's Funeral
As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral
director
to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or
friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the
Kentucky back country.
As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a
typical man, I didn't stop for directions.
I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently
gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and
crew left and they were eating lunch.
I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the
side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I
didn't know what else to do, so I started to play.
The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played
out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends.
I played like I've never played before for this homeless man.
And as I played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep. They wept, I
wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and
started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full.
As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never
seen nothin' like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for
twenty years."
Apparently I'm still lost..... it's a man thing.....
I just went through the 229 photos that they have up now. Of course every day they add new photos...
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/03/12/world/asia/20110312_japan.html?...
I wish I could say more than that, but if I think too much about it and try to figure out what to say...I am at a loss for words.
So I have been back in the States for 8 days now!
My University decided to suspend the study abroad program in Japan for the semester. They have been good about providing options for students who needed the credits to graduate, and created some courses for the group of us who were planning on being in Japan (14 of us)
However, since I don't need to the credits to graduate and actually love putting together my course schedule and spending hours picking out which classes and professors to sign up for, I decided to take the semester off.
Which means that I have too much time on my hands at the moment. I have many ideas for what to do with that time, and am in the process of settling things and contacting all the people that need to be contacted. *sigh*
I still plan on returning to Japan after I graduate University! I also have many many photos to still upload here, many places that I went to that I haven't written about yet ^_^
I hope that everything in Japan is resolved quickly and the death toll stops climbing. I want to help but I feel completely useless here.
PS- forgot to post this link on here. I was on the news! I am wearing the bright red jacket
So back on Feb. 17 I went to Fuji-Q High Land Amusement Park which is very close to Mt. Fuji! (thereby giving it it's name)
Here is a dismal photo taken from the bus. You can barely see Mt.Fuji in the background!!!
Meet the guys! They came in handy when we walked through the haunted house ^_^
There are three main roller coasters that we went on. And all of them had these wonderful typical warning signs. But there was one part that I had never seen before! Lack of sleep....hmmmmmm The highlight of High Land was the haunted house. A terrifying walk that takes between 20-45 minutes (depending on how slow you go) through an abandoned hospital... While waiting in line you get to see people run screaming out of the exit...which is awful because I was already semi-freaking out.But those times are when you remember all the games from your childhood. Like roshambo, or slapping games... my hands were bright red by the time we got to the front of the line
After you enter the building you have to wait to get your picture taken!!!! My face is very accurate for what followed ^_^ And sure enough we ended up running out of the building! Totally worth the long line and cost
Oh and this ride reminded me of Germany =D Oh we are just chilling with one of the Fuji-Q rangers! PINK POWER!!!!So my camera's memory card seems to have broken and bc of that it wont take any pictures!
Hopefully I didnt lose all my photos from the last three days So here is an image taken with my bad cell camera hahaOn this wonderful day where we celebrate romance and shalala I feel incredibly accomplished!!!
10 hours of sleep (I think I sleep longer to stay in my bed and avoid the cold)
Started with Tangled, then to Burlesque and now to Mulan. (Handy to have a bucket of popcorn ^_^)
And to top it all I haven't had any reason to get out of my pjs!!!!
DAY WELL SPENT!!!!
Maybe posting late will become my forte if I keep doing it so well!
For New Years I went to Zojoji Temple with some friends! Sadly I wasn't able to meet up with everyone (there were about 3-5 different groups of people that I knew who went to the temple) and half way through the night the small group I was in got separated into two amid the masses of people!
At the temple there were stalls of food, mochi, and of course hot sake. Though I didn't buy anything from any of the stalls. Behind the temple you can see Tokyo Tower!!! (which I have yet to go up)
Since we got there early we stood in line so we would be able to release balloons at midnight!!! The waiting took a long time and it was cold, but worth it ^_^After standing in line we traded the admission ticket for a yellow paper to write our New Years wish on!
The line let us out right in front of a smaller building of the temple. They happened to be vacuuming at the time haha! And from going through my photos I have realized that I like taking pictures of people WAY more than of the buildings. So be prepared to see a lot of my friends Grainam, Sven, and Niels. Niels brought his girlfriend with...but every time she noticed me taking a picture she would run away! But while we waited in line to get our balloons (after a delicious end of the year meal at McDonalds lol) I was able to take a creeper picture of Niels and his gf =PWhich resulted in Niels photo-bombing my next picture ^_^
Behold the balloons!!!! I thought they looked rather similar to jelly fish! (This was the moment Niels and his gf got separated from Grainam, Sven and myself. So many people!) Here is a really poorly filmed video of the balloon release!Afterwards we entered the main temple, which really looks like any other temple inside (took 40+ minutes to get in!). Made an offering+wish then were ushered out to let the next batch in To the side of the temple they were burning offerings and other goodies for good fortune, health etc. It was very bright and smokey. From the temple we wandered to a pub and ate a VERY delicious meal of fish and chips! I think I have never enjoyed a first meal of the year more than that one...probably because I was insanely hungry and it tasted amazingly un-japanese
After the delicious meal we were found infront of the Pokemon center and then participating in shenanigans at a playground! The above statues are for children lost in childbirth etc.
and on that jolly note....
HAPPY NEW YEAR
